This one is the most memorable concert not just it was rahman's but also it was my first one too.. So it all happened once when i came to know abt the kozhikode concert in a blog .. which is not tat far from my place.. Well there is one Rahmanic Brotherhood community in orkut its via that i contacted the fellow rahmanics who where to go to this concert.. Incidentally kowshik one of the moderator happened to be my schoolmate arumugham's friend made arrangements for the tickets and may 3rd i happened to bunk college..
On the day of concert we arranged a van for the travel..I happen to meet few other rahmanics over there...We had one big flux prepared for our maestro..The long wait for our journey ended at 7.30 when we started with an soulful number of rahman (Elza pughazum) blistering on to our ears and yo start our concert.. Then we travelled along the wired roads of gods own country kerala thou, it was not the first time for me..By 12 we reached our destination, as we were left out with hours for the concert to begin so planned for a visit to the calicut beach where vasco da gama en routed to India..It was an bright sunny day at the beach and mere memories of pre independence history remained there in form of shattered bridge.. Right after beach we headed to the stadium where the concert was to happen.. Had typical kerala meals oh! those big-big rice...
Then the long wait for the concert to begin started.. There were floods of ppl waiting to get into the stadium..We had the upstands gallery ticket so we queued along that entrance..By 4p.m we entered the scene of happening as bare sun was scorching with the humidity.. Somehow we managed ourselves to seats and WAITED WAITED WAITED
Atlast the 'Mausam and Escape' the welcome intro for ARR ringed, followed by 'O saya'. 'Masakali', 'Jiya se', 'Oru koodai' were few numbers tat lighted up the concert..Though it was chitra's 'netru ilatha' and 'malrgale' which rang thru our ear drums, making concert even better..Sivamani was much missed..Then my favo 'Rehana tu', incidentally the fingerboard continuum instrument part w
as beautifully hummed by ARR himself. I was personally touched when ARR sang 'kwaja ji' & 'maula mere maula' I'm speechless, as rahman broke into tears..Then there is this one person who made the place to stand up on their toes was the zapper Blazee, man he zaps as no Indian: 'taxi','new','kala bandar' mere enuf.. So then the crowds favo turned out to be 'Mustafa' and 'taxi'. Once again Hariharan proved why he is an great improviser as he engaged the magnificently with his 'Aye hairathe','Roja','Vaaji'..Benny,Javed,Aslam were others who made their presence feel.. 'Jai Ho' and 'Vande matram' marked the end of the concert as the crowd erupted for both...
